As steel ladles are becoming larger in size, with increased melting temperatures and longer melting times, the environment that refractories must endure during use is becoming more severe. Therefore, there is a need to further enhance the performance of purging plugs to meet the demands of modern steelmaking processes and technologies.
In particular, for high-grade steel and high-ratio refining applications, the lifespan of purging plugs has not been effectively matched with the lifespan of other ladle refractories. The increased frequency of ladle repairs has become a bottleneck in production efficiency. To address this issue, our company has developed the innovative twin monolithic purging plug, which effectively solves the problem of lifespan mismatch.
The Twin Monolithic Purging Plug features two plug cores. One core is used initially, and once its usable portion is depleted, it can be refilled and replaced with the second core. Typically, the lifespan of the purging plug can be increased by more than 1.8 times, improving its compatibility with the slag line.

Numerical Simulation of Purging Plug
Numerical simulation is used to evaluate the place of purging plugs and whether it optimizes the flow of argon. Additionally, it stimulates while the steel melt is effectively stirred, whether the placement affect the slag line or cause localized erosion on the ladle wall.
